My wife works for a company that sells emergency preparedness supplies and its slogan is preparing to be your own hero.
What does it mean to be a hero? Preparing to be your own hero implies that you come to your own rescue. As a hero, you are able to "save" yourself and lend assistance to others. Being a hero in your government organization can have a similar meaning. Through thoughtful preparation and planning you can help yourself, others in your organization, and the organization as a whole.
The key to both of the examples above is preparation. You play the crucial role of bringing in revenue by collecting what is owed to the government, and gaining revenue is vital in some cases it may mean "survival". Survival of your organization, survival of the services you are currently offering and perhaps even survival of the lifestyle you have become accustomed to.
How can you prepare to be a hero in your organization?
- Make sure you know what your current collection processes are and identify any bottlenecks.
- Remain current on the collection industry's best practices and identify tools and techniques that will help eliminate bottlenecks and improve your collection processes.
- Take the necessary steps to implement what you have discovered.
