In our September 2007 Revenue Review Newsletter, RevQ announced our new Data Transfer Security Policy. We recently added an additional layer to this security for your increased protection.
In addition to our current process of using 7zip to encrypt the data files, we are also increasing our FTP security and are now initiating the use of SFTP to improve the security when transferring the 7zip-encrypted files via the internet.
What is SFTP? SFTP, Secure File Transfer Protocol, is replacing the less secure FTP, File Transfer Protocol, for transferring files securely from the sending server to the receiving server.
To use SFTP to upload and download files, each client will be required to load a free, one-time file, on their system called WINSCP. You can download the free release from their website at http://winscp.net/download/winscp382setup.exe. We are using release 3.8.2 at this time.
Once again, if you have a different secure method for transferring data between your government and a private sector partner, we will be happy to review your process and work with you as best we can.
Thank you for your efforts to support us in the secure transfer of your data.
